The Center
The goal of our Hope Centers is to provide a brighter future for families by giving them a marketable skill. Unlike many jobs, sewing can be done from home by women of limited space and resources. SIO is usually offering classes at up to five different Hope Centers at a time. With nearly 70 students and a growing number of graduates, the centers are bringing economic hope to the people.
The Name
The name "Hope Centers" is more than a name. The students are finding a place of refuge to share their hearts and find peace through our workers. The most recent center was begun in a small village outside of Mysore in December 2007. The village had been without economic and spiritual hope for many years. As a result of this center, there is now a children's outreach and Bible study. That village is fertile ground for a church plant in the next few years.
The Equipment
The power supply in India is intermittent and full of surges. The lack of consistent power combined with the cost and maintenance of electric machines makes foot pedal machines the optimal choice for equipment. These machine do tens of thousands of yards in stitching with little maintenance. While we would look with pity on them, they actually have the best machines for the job that they need to do.
The Cost
Every center receives its equipment and one year of startup funds from South Indian Outreach ($1500 US). Once the center is fully up and running, the tuition fees (very small) help to cover the salary of the teacher and building rental after the first year. Your support of SIO has enabled this life changing skill and true spiritual hope to enter many lives.
